Receding Storm - Watercolor painting AND paperback book

[...] I let my eyes slip half-closed, turning the world muted and fuzzy, but the traces of magic begin to glow at the corners of my vision. I turn in their direction, taking deep breaths and searching for the taste of rain and lightning on the wind. I catch the fading scent of the thunderbird’s storm clouds and study the shape of the breezes over the lake, letting myself get lost in my observations and speculations. The air that tastes like myths is cold and sharp against the summer day, tinged with pine needles. From science fiction and fantasy author K.N. Salustro comes a collection of short stories written over the course of 2020. There are no plagues in these pages, the extreme weather comes from a mythical creature, and the biggest disaster you’ll see takes place on a spaceship when someone tries to make baked goods with an incendiary combination of ingredients.

This collection includes stories that are on the more serious side, and ones that are more humorous. Most fall on the fantasy spectrum, with the exception of that one space-faring sci-fi story. These tales may not change the world, but if you’re looking for some escapism, you’ve come to the right place.

Tales from 2020 includes:

  • Fire in the Sky
  • The Thunderbird
  • The Beetle and the Twins
  • The Marvel Artist
  • Don’t Look Back
  • Grandmother’s Familiar
  • How Not to Make Cookies in Space
